Before we get into the nitty-gritty of my nemesis, Lewy, I invite you to enjoy the lighter side of Dad.

Thin and Trim

Dad had an aversion to being overweight, and often referred to himself as the “Thin, Trim Dad”.   When my sister lost weight he sent a congratulations photo and note:

 

Here is one of  my favorite poems:

I wanted to be so slim and trim
As anyone would be
Growing ever more beautiful
For everyone to see.

So I dieted and exercised, and I really really tried
I brutalized my body, until I nearly died.

Just to be so gorgeous, sensual and slinky;
But, darn the luck – look at me now:

Another one of his claims was “I am the germ-free Dad”.  Perhaps it was to assure my mother he wouldn’t pass germs onto us kids.  And maybe it was true, he was seldom ill.
